Small business support

Small businesses are the gems of our community, and it is in all our interests that they survive. Support for small business is intertwined with climate change action – sustainable business is good business. I will support small businesses to prosper in a sustainable economy.

Many industries are struggling to survive due to the COVID 19 pandemic. Targeted support for the most affected industries, including the health sector, tourism, hospitality, and small business providers is essential.

To support small businesses, I support:
  • Funding for businesses, including those in commercial rental premises, to install solar panels or participate in a community solar program. This will reduce costs to the business, thus increasing their bottom line.
  • Targeted support for businesses and organisations still struggling to recover from COVID 19 shutdowns and related workforce shortages.
  • Implementation of recommendations of the Australian Small Business and Family Enterprise Ombudsman (here) to make tax compliance simpler and more small business friendly.

This policy will:
  1. Increase profits for small business owners;
  2. Benefit employees;
  3. Make tax compliance simpler;
  4. Ensure small business operators continue to provide valuable services to our community.

Our team acknowledges the traditional owners of the lands on which we meet and work, including the lands of the Boonwurrung, Bunurong and Gunai Kurnai people,  and other Aboriginal lands and nations within this country. We pay our respects to the elders of these lands, past and present, and acknowledge that sovereignty has never been ceded.
