Kate Chaney MP - Independent for Curtin (WA)

Independent Member for Curtin

Kate Chaney is Western Australia’s first female Independent Member of Parliament. She was elected to the previously ultra-safe Liberal seat of Curtin in Perth at the 2022 election after campaigning on a platform of climate action, integrity and inclusive communities. Kate served as Anglicare WA’s Director of Innovation & Strategy immediately before being elected to Parliament.

Currently, Kate sits on the:

  • Joint Standing Committee on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Affairs
  • House Committee on Social Policy and Legal Affairs
  • and is the first Lower House crossbencher to sit on the Joint Standing Committee on Electoral Matters. 

Prior to entering politics, Kate had a successful career in commercial law, corporate strategy and community services, including roles in Aboriginal affairs, sustainability and innovation.
