Independent Member for Curtin
Kate Chaney is Western Australia’s first female Independent Member of Parliament. She was elected to the previously ultra-safe Liberal seat of Curtin in Perth at the 2022 election after campaigning on a platform of climate action, integrity and inclusive communities. Kate served as Anglicare WA’s Director of Innovation & Strategy immediately before being elected to Parliament.
Currently, Kate sits on the:
- Joint Standing Committee on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Affairs
- House Committee on Social Policy and Legal Affairs
- and is the first Lower House crossbencher to sit on the Joint Standing Committee on Electoral Matters.
Prior to entering politics, Kate had a successful career in commercial law, corporate strategy and community services, including roles in Aboriginal affairs, sustainability and innovation.
