I will fight for integrity, transparency and accountability in politics. It’s time to stamp out corruption and dishonesty, to support a strong and healthy democracy.
This is my 4 point plan to bring integrity, transparency and accountability to parliament:
1. Greater Financial Responsibility
Taxpayer money should be spent responsibly and transparently. I will work to stop pork-barrelling and make sure Monash gets its fair share by:
- Ensuring efficient and targeted spending of public funds.
- Increasing scrutiny in awarding government contracts and grants.
2. Real Accountability for Politicians
I will champion tougher standards and stronger oversight to restore trust in politics, by:
- Strengthening the National Anti-Corruption Commission.
- Introducing real-time disclosure of political donations - I am leading by example by making all donations public as they are made.
- Toughening laws to reveal secret meetings between lobbyists and politicians that result in the disproportionate influence of some interests on government policies.
- Outlawing misleading advertising during election campaigns
- Protecting whistleblowers
- Using Citizens’ Assemblies for key decisions.
3. Increased Media Diversity
A healthy democracy needs a diverse and responsible media. I will support greater diversity in media ownership.
4. Higher Standards in Parliament
Politicians should lead by example. I will push to strengthen the Parliamentary Code of Conduct and demand better behaviour from all members of parliament.
